Therapeutic Day Program

When young people with developmental disabilities move from their teens to early adulthood, they face more than the usual challenges that come with this exciting and sometimes bewildering stage of life. To navigate it successfully, they need extra help to continue their education and learn life skills that prepare them to hold jobs, manage money, and live independently.

They need to acquire communication skills that allow them to make friends with peers, engage with the wider world, and advocate for themselves when they encounter misunderstanding and discrimination. Not to mention health, fitness, and creative pursuits.

Even the most loving, dedicated parents or guardians cannot meet all these needs because of their work and other responsibilities. CEO Michelle Jericevich recognized this and founded Great Prospects in 2010 to provide helpful programming for her daughter, Indya, and other young adults with disabilities in the Atlanta area.

Who is it for?

Our Therapeutic Day Program is for young adults who have graduated or transitioned from high school and are interested in maintaining their current skills and acquiring the additional skills they will need for adult life. This program is designed for young adults (21-40) who meet the eligibility requirements.

The Therapeutic Day Program focuses on skill retention, social skills training, peer support, community service, health and fitness, therapeutic activities, and planning for an independent future. It includes programming such as:

Health/Fitness: Adaptive Yoga, Adaptive Martial Arts, Pickleball, and Adaptive Fitness classes taught by certified instructors, focusing on cardio, strength training, and flexibility.

Therapies: Speech, Music, and Art.

Community Activities: Visiting local stores, libraries, parks, and doing volunteer work at various locations in the community

Social/Life Skills: Healthy lifestyle choices, stranger danger and pedestrian safety discussions, technology lessons, budgeting and financial skill development, dental hygiene and self-care practice, social skills development, staying up-to-date with current events on CNN Student News: News of the Day meetings.

Weekly Fun Activities: Out to lunch, bowling, movies and mini golf at Aurora Cineplex, and various other enjoyable experiences.

Working with qualified staff in a 7:1 ratio, participants at Great Prospects can feel free to be themselves, express their true personalities, and learn to make good choices for the future. Here, they can start on the path to achieving their full potential.
